If you are careless enough to get murdered and not leave enough clues behind for the police to find your killer, you will be trapped in an infinite limbo. Peter Jackson, with The Lovely Bones, will be the next director to visit this terrible dilemna that could very possibly be the unending peril that any one of us could face. We must praise Hollywood and every one of the myriad filmmakers who have brought our attention to this haunting reminder of just how careful we all must be.
Any one of us could be murdered the next time we turn around and see that one guy that we never second-guessed. If you are killed and the police can't solve your case, you will be stuck here on earth, as the precious little boy in Peter Jackson's trailer put it, "in the in-between." As adorable as that little boy and his painting may be, you will not enjoy the in-between. You won't be able to control your surroundings, whether they be ridiculously splendid or harrowing.
We must commend Hollywood, for their dogged diligence in bringing our attention to this. But more than a stirring tale of emotion and terror is needed, and Not Triangles is here to help. Here is your guide to making sure your murder is solvable!
1. Bring a camera! Sew a special pocket into your clothes for the lens to protrude, but keep the rest concealed. Take as many pictures as possible when you feel threatened.
2. Claw! Get skin, blood, hair, clothing or anything possible from your assailant under your fingernails. If you are shot or attacked by a ranged weapon, claw whatever information you can about your murder into the ground. If on asphalt or cement, use your own blood to paint the facts.
3. Die Creatively! As anyone who watched the murder of Mr. Burns episode on the Simpsons will know; how a body falls can be read in many ways. Make sure how you end up says something to your investigators.
4. Keep a Diary of Acquiantances! Everyone knows diaries aren't cool. But this diary is not only cool, it won't take much time out of your day! Every day, write down the new people you met and how you felt meeting them. Be sure and update regularly on each person. And not just the suspicious ones, as everyone knows it's always the last person you expect!
5. Talk to your family first! The main issue we always see in the movies is the frustrated parent or friend searching desperately for clues and ideas. This kind of confusion will only keep in you in the in-between that much longer. Be sure and let your family know where you keep your diary and all other things that you think might pertain to your very possible murder.
To all the families of unsolved murder cases, our hearts go out to you and we hope for your loved one's soul to find eternal solace soon.
